Since the publication of the first article on Moose, “A kitten with a lion heart”, in November 2016, this little kitty is now no longer a tiny ball of fur.
At eight years old, Moose has matured into a beautiful, tall, slinky cat. Being born with a cleft palate meant that life hadn’t always been smooth sailing for Moose and his human mom, but he adapted extremely well to not having a normal nose or nasal cavity, and these days even features as a bit of a celebrity, boasting a Facebook page of 4.6k followers.
Caring for Moose requires commitment. He used to go for weekly nebulising but, luckily, this has been reduced to only once every few weeks. Despite having a whole army of veterinary staff at Old Chapel Veterinary Clinic at his beck and call, he’s gotten used to having his nose cleaned at home. This said, mom had to acquire some stealth-like moves, because as soon as he sees the tissue, he runs!
Moose enjoys lazy mornings, cuddling under the duvet, his hot-water bottle, and eating (of course). He especially loves sneaking pizza crusts and cheesy lasagne, which makes you think of another famous cat… And, like Garfield, he’s also turned into somewhat of a “drama queen”, literally throwing himself on the floor in a rage of meowing tantrums if he doesn’t get his way, which is usually related to food, shoulder rides, or not getting enough attention.
We’re told that Moose still rules the house, thinking that he’s the boss amongst the other fur babies and often terrorising them when the mood strikes, but knowing mom, Bernice, it’s no secret that Moose is her “soul cat” and holds a very special place in her heart.
And, so, we’re happy to report that Moose continues to bring love, laughter, hope, and joy to all who know him, whilst fulfilling his role of spreading awareness for special-needs animals and, first and foremost, the importance of serialisation of pets.
We salute you, Mr Moose, as you keep on reminding us: “Always be brave”.
