In another successful rehoming by SA Yorkie Rescue, a senior Yorkshire Terrier named Crystal found her forever home with a loving adopter, Lynda Powell. This heart-warming story showcases the power of compassion and the impact of responsible pet adoption.
A Yorkie in need
Crystal, a small female Yorkie, came to SA Yorkie Rescue in need of care and attention. Despite her challenges, she captured the hearts of those around her with her gentle spirit and resilience.
Foster care and new beginnings
Thanks to the care of our amazing foster, Candice, Crystal received the love and attention she desperately needed. Candice, along with her own Yorkie, showered Crystal with affection and tenderness during her stay. This nurturing environment helped prepare Crystal for her next chapter.
When Candice had to rush down to Cape Town for work, Anique, another of our Foster Mums, assisted with taking good care of Crystal.
Anique shares....
Crystal was just a bundle of love when we got her. She loves cuddles and attention. My children were very caring towards her, especially knowing what she’d been through and that she needed extra care and love.
My kids always ask when are we getting new doggies in to take care of until they find their forever home. They understand that the doggies we take in need extra love and care and that’s why we’re there for them. We want to keep every single one of them as we fall in love with them, but if we did, we couldn’t take care of other new doggies that need us, and this is what’s so special.
We take lots of photos with every single one of the doggies we care for so that, when they’re older, my kids can look back on their special foster book to see what an amazing thing they did and what a big role they played for all these doggies. I’m making a book for each one of them with notes and photos for them to keep one day.
Thank you, Pam, for allowing us to be a part of Crystal’s rescue team.
Love at first sight
When Lynda Powell met Crystal, it was an instant connection. Recognising the special bond, Lynda quickly made arrangements to adopt Crystal and bring her to her new home in Cape Town. In a touching display of dedication, Lynda arranged for Crystal to fly with her, seated in the chair next to her on the plane. This journey marked the beginning of a new chapter in Crystal’s life, filled with love and care.
A new life and much-needed care
Upon arriving in her new home, Lynda immediately addressed Crystal’s health needs. Crystal’s teeth had been severely neglected, resulting in extensive decay and a large abscess in her mouth. The neglect was so severe that even experienced veterinarians were shocked by her condition. Despite the challenges, a dedicated vet worked tirelessly to help Crystal. Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage, all of her teeth had to be removed.
Recovery and transformation
After her dental surgery, Crystal healed beautifully and became pain-free, ready to fully enjoy her new life.
Angel now enjoys a complete family with Lynda, Peter and her babysitter/second Mom, Regina. Loved to distraction by all.
Lynda shares this touching update...
“She’s definitely the Star, a precious soul. I’m in awe every day as she only knows how to love. With all she’s endured, she bears no grudge, never snaps at anyone. She’s enriched our lives so much. It was definitely love at first sight. We’ll give her the best life possible in her new forever home.”
Crystal’s gentle and loving nature inspired a new name – Angel – perfectly reflecting her angelic personality. She approaches life with nothing but love and trust.
The impact of rescue and adoption
This story highlights the crucial work of SA Yorkie Rescue in saving and rehoming Yorkshire Terriers in need. It demonstrates the transformative power of adoption and the joy that rescue dogs can bring to their new families.
By choosing to adopt, Lynda not only gave Crystal (now Angel) a second chance at life but also experienced the unconditional love and companionship that rescue dogs offer. Angel’s story serves as an inspiration for others considering pet adoption and showcases the resilience of animals when given proper care and love.
SA Yorkie Rescue continues its mission to rescue and rehome Yorkshire Terriers, transforming the lives of these tiny companions through love and dedication.
