After being mauled by dogs, it was touch-and-go for Gingy. Badly injured, he hid beneath pallets until our Coriza rescued him (getting bitten in the process – but we can’t blame him, since his mom died in similar circumstances). He had to have his jaw wired, recover from punctured lungs and chronic snuffles, and finally have a back leg amputated.
Fortunately, our friends Dr Suzanne Muller and Alta Koekemoer at the SPCA worked wonders with Gingy, funded by donations from lovely CAT Garden Route supporters. He was a “purr-fect” gentleman throughout his ordeal and his gentle nature made him a hero to all of us. Once he’d recovered, our very own Sonja Stander adopted him… but the story doesn’t end there.
Gingy has been nominated for a StarPet South Africa award! By sharing his story with you, we hope to bring CAT Garden Route much-needed exposure and support to help us carry on helping cats in need like Gingy.

Gingy has been a winner from the start!
I was approached by one of CAT's Volunteers, Coriza Vermeulen, who actually saved Gingy, to visit him at the SPCA. And so I did. Every day, I went to speak to him, hold him, pray for him, and just to tell him how special he is. All the while not knowing that he’d come to stay with me.
After a few weeks, I got that phone call, asking if he could come to me for the time of healing. Of course, I immediately said “yes!”.
Well, after that, we as a family fell in love with Mr Tripod, and he also loved all the other cats around him.
In agreement with all parties involved, they decided that my home would be the best he’d ever have.
And here he is, a loving soul with so much love and joy to share with whoever would love him back. He’s a precious soul, and he loves taking care of small baby kittens and teaching them.
If I open my mouth then it’s to talk about Gingy, my life Angel – I can go on about him forever!
I just thank the Lord he’s safe and alive, and brings us so much joy.
That’s why I took the lead to participate in StarPet. Because that’s who he is: a star pet!
