Many years ago, I ran a three-month animal healing course. On the final day of the course, I took everybody to the Highveld Horse Care Unit in Meyerton so that they could have some practical experience connecting telepathically with horses and donkeys and doing some energy healing on them.
When we arrived, we were taken to a small paddock where a young female donkey stood. We were told the tragic story of how this little donkey had been pulling a cart with her mother in the township (even at her young age) when a car came speeding around the bend and drove straight into the cart, breaking the mother donkey’s back on impact. It was a horrific accident.
The police stayed with both donkeys until the Horse Care Unit arrived. After assessing the damage, they decided the most humane thing would be to euthanise the mother. This was done with the little donkey watching on, which must have been extremely distressing.
Five days later, we arrived at the Horse Care Unit. The little donkey was terrified and didn’t want anyone to come close to her. I decided to place each of my course participants with a horse to connect and do the energy work, and while they were busy, I went and spent time with the donkey.
After fifteen minutes, this little donkey, whom I called Lucy, attached herself to me and started to follow me everywhere. When the day came to a close, everybody who’d taken part in the course went home with a certificate, and I went home with a donkey.
As Lucy stepped out of the horse box once she was home, the first horse she saw was my gelding, Red. She fell madly in love with him, and after that first day, wherever Red went, Lucy was stuck to his hip. They became known as “the odd couple”.
As the days went into weeks and the weeks into months, Lucy grew into such an amazing donkey. She’d help me during my workshops and taught many people to communicate on a telepathic level with animals. Everybody loved her, and she became the most popular donkey in my family.
To this day, Lucy is the happiest and most incredible donkey of all time. She has such a big heart and often opens the hearts of people who visit her so they, too, can feel the love pouring from her heart.
She’s become the herd leader in every way, and all the other horses and donkeys respect her and listen to her when she tells them to move out of her way. Whenever they don’t listen to me, I always tell them, “I’m going to set Lucy on you if you’re naughty.”
