Their story began with three sisters. Their mom was a stray who wandered into the home of a kind AACL staff member. He began feeding her, never expecting that one day she’d surprise him with three tiny girls. The kittens were taken to AACL and placed with a wonderful foster mom who loved and cared for them while they waited for their forever homes.
And then I met them.
All three.
I remember falling in love with every single one. But at the time, I could only realistically afford to bring one kitten home. I had to make the sensible choice.
Except… how do you choose one little girl and leave her sisters behind?
After some convincing, the support of AACL, a little strategic financial planning, and a whole lot of heart, I decided that I simply couldn’t separate them from the life they’d always known – a life filled with their sisters, their foster mom, and all the friends they’d grown up with.
So instead of one kitten, I drove to Waterfall and came home with two calico bundles.
Lemon and Orange.
And what a pair they are.
Lemon is my gentle little soul. She’s soft, sweet, affectionate, and just a little bit clumsy. There’s something incredibly tender about her, and she seems perfectly content to curl up close and soak up all the love she can get.
Orange, on the other hand, is a tiny ball of fire. She’s feisty, curious, mischievous, and clearly believes that rules are merely suggestions. She’s also developed a particular fondness for stealing my socks from the drawer whenever I’m not looking. At this point, I can only assume she’s building a collection. I’ve yet to discover what her endgame is, but apparently I’m now sharing my wardrobe with a very small, very furry thief.
They couldn't be more different, but together they’re perfect.
