The Animal Anti-Cruelty League Cape Town (AACL™) is the second largest animal welfare organisation in South Africa. Established in 1956, it’s a charitable organisation entirely supported by voluntary donations. The prime objective of the AACL is “to promote kindness and prevent or suppress cruelty to animals”.
AACL is committed to the ongoing protection of animals in South Africa. It provides shelter for abandoned animals, promotes an efficient adoption policy, prosecutes animal cruelty cases, runs welfare hospitals and mobile clinics in disadvantaged areas, and reaches thousands of primary school learners through its educational programmes. We provide basic primary health care and protection to the pets of all underprivileged owners at a subsidised cost.
During the financial year ending March 2022 we’re proud to have achieved the following:
- 42,327 primary health consultations
- 12,206 vaccinations
- 5,486 sterilisations
- 3,042 clients were assisted at our mobile clinics
- 2,569 specialised and lifesaving surgeries
- 546 animals were adopted
- Educated in excess of 1,000 children on how to care for an animal
